About The Position

Florida’s Newborn Screening (NBS) Program screens newborns for certain conditions and provides for early identification, management, and follow-up for those affected. Early detection and treatment of health issues help babies grow up healthier, making this program a vital part of the standard of care for all infants. The Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Unit plays a critical role in managing the NBS unsatisfactory specimen caseload, overseeing the program’s data system, benchmark enforcement, quality improvement activities, supporting strategic marketing initiatives and much more. This position reports to the Supervisor of the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Unit within the Florida Newborn Screening (NBS) Follow-up Program. This role is responsible for conducting follow-up activities related to the initial opt-out process for the Florida Sickle Cell Registry. The incumbent will be required to independently manage and prioritize the following daily tasks to meet deadlines and program requirements:

Requirements

  • Utilization of equipment and software required for the position, including the newborn screening data system, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to work independently and in a group setting.
  • Ability to manage caseloads and maintain accurate records in a timely manner.
  • Experience handling and disseminating medical information in a professional and confidential manner.
  • Ability to handle incoming phone calls and answer questions in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing using proper grammar and sentence structure.
  • Ability to adhere to workplace etiquette.
  • Ability to read, understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and maintain attention to detail.
  • Ability to organize data into logical format for presentation in reports, documents, and other written materials.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
  • Currently employed by a Florida agency in the State Personnel System.
  • Experience working in a hospital, physician’s office, medical facility, and/or public health office answering office phones and providing detailed Healthcare related information to clients.
  • Experience working with data system software outside of Microsoft Suite.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree or higher.
  • Experience working in customer service is preferred.
  • Experience working in a call center environment

Responsibilities

  • Speak with families and provide general information regarding the opt-out process for the Florida Sickle Cell Registry to ensure families are informed of their right to opt out of inclusion.
  • Printing and mailing letters from the NBS data system and calling families at designated intervals.
  • Pull caseload reports weekly and monthly.
  • Work other caseload activities in a timely manner.
  • Accurately document case notes Within following interactions with families into the NBS data system.
  • Research updated contact information to ensure patient records are current and accurate within the NBS data system.
  • Answer incoming phone calls in a professional manner.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
