About The Position

HERITAGE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL HEALTH SERVICES MANAGER POSITION OBJECTIVE : To manage and provide oversight to the Nurses’ offices and provide student health guidance to the school. QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS: The employee must be a Christian with an authentic and a mature personal relationship with Jesus Christ, who agrees to the HCS Statement of Faith, Charter of Core Values and Employee Covenant in both their professional conduct and personal lifestyle. The employee is committed to incorporating these qualities and standards in carrying out the calling to Christian education. The Health Services Manager must possess a consistent understanding of and ability to deal with sensitive issues in a confidential and professional manner. Other important characteristics include a compassionate spirit, strong communication skills, flexibility, detail oriented, team-focused, and the ability to collaborate with other departments and administration on complex issues. EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) required. Must be a licensed Registered Nurse in the state of Indiana or have a degree in a related medical field or advanced degree in the health sciences. Experience as a school nurse is highly desired, as is management, coordinating or supervisory experience. Current CPR certification desired.

  • Must be able to traverse campus, ascend and descend stairs, and assist children and adults in medical situations.
  • Must be able to list children, with assistance and unassisted.
  • Must be able to squat, bend, kneel , reach, or crawl.
  • These activities are performed daily.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a school nurse is highly desired, as is management, coordinating or supervisory experience.
  • Current CPR certification desired.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary resource for Health Services policies and procedures.
  • Consult on local, state, and federal school health guidelines.
  • Develop program philosophies, concepts, materials, methods, and procedures.
  • Develop. implement. and administer goals, objectives, and procedures for providing effective and efficient student health programs and services.
  • Schedule nursing staff and substitutes to provide appropriate staffing in both nursing offices,
  • Provide nursing staff updated changes in nursing practice related to school nursing, screening procedures, nursing related legal courses and state requirements.
  • Coordinate with the high school school office to coordinate student drug screening in nursing office
  • Coordinate with 3rd party Drug Testing Company to organize quarterly Bus Driver and Safety & Security drug testing.
  • Schedule and coordinate annual Hearing and Vision screening days with the Marion Co Health Department and school and verify that all students have been screened as indicated
  • Verify that Health Services staff members maintain their own licensing, certification and continuing education..
  • Conduct/coordinate in-service training to all Health Services staff on a continual basis, addressing specific needs as they arise - (i.e. EpiPen training, Bloodborne Pathogens, Stop The Bleed).
  • Direct the hiring, on-boarding, and training of new nursing staff and substitute nurses.
  • Assist in the professional development of the nursing staff and serve as a resource and mentor.
  • Order medications and supplies as needed for each nurse’s office, including epi-pens, OTC meds.
  • Record and maintain all medications given to Health Services by parents for student dispensing
  • Coordinate follow up with parents who students are not in compliance with state required immunizations
  • Complete school reports as required by the State (vision, hearing, immunizations).
  • Review and update nursing procedures as needed and promote standardized nursing practices throughout the HCS community.
  • Update annual Bloodborne Pathogen and Epi-pen in-service video training and comprehension survey for all staff and faculty.
  • Work with Administrators in drafting communications to the community about managing infectious illness outbreaks
  • Collaborate with parents to verify that the student portal is updated with health services information at the start of school year and throughout if information changes. Communicate this information confidentially with faculty/staff as needed for student's safety.
  • Collaborate with school level Principals and the Director of Educational Support Services as needed.
  • Administer performance evaluations of school nurses.
  • Perform all responsibilities in the school nurse job description.
