Bring your accuracy and HR expertise to Kamaʻāina Kids and support our statewide workforce. Kamaʻāina Kids— Hawaiʻi’s largest locally owned and operated childcare provider — is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced HR Payroll Generalist to join our Corporate HR team in Kailua. This role partners closely with our VP of Human Resources to support payroll-related functions, benefits administration, timekeeping systems, and new hire onboarding compliance. We utilize a professional payroll services provider for full payroll processing. However, this role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate time entry, PTO calculations, benefit deductions, and HR system integrity. The HR Payroll Generalist supports payroll preparation, time & attendance management, benefits-related deductions, and onboarding documentation. This is an operational HR role requiring hands-on experience with payroll adjustments, benefit entries, compliance documentation, and employee record management. Requirements

  • Prior hands-on payroll processing experience
  • Working knowledge of payroll deductions, compliance requirements, and timekeeping systems
  • HR experience beyond supervisory exposure
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Comfortable handling confidential information
  • Proficient in Excel and Microsoft Office
  • Organized, structured, and deadline-driven
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining accuracy across payroll, onboarding, and HR documentation
  • A people person who can communicate professionally with diverse personalities
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and reside in Hawaiʻi (or have plans to relocate).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with PRISM, ProService, or PEO systems strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with semi-monthly payroll processing
  • Enter and manage paid time off hours, tuition reimbursements, and payroll adjustments
  • Maintain and monitor time & attendance system accuracy
  • Review payroll deductions and ensure compliance with state and federal requirements
  • Troubleshoot payroll discrepancies and communicate clearly with employees
  • Process new hire paperwork including I-9 verification and system setup
  • Enter new employees into PRISM / ProService
  • Maintain employee files in compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Support background checks and onboarding documentation
  • Assist with benefits-related documentation as needed
  • Ensure adherence to state and federal employment regulations
  • Maintain organized and accurate HR files
  • Support audits, reporting requirements and department initiatives as needed
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, PTO balances, and deductions
  • Provide professional, responsive customer service to field staff and managers
