About The Position

Founded in 1909, the NAACP is the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization. Its members throughout the United States and the world are the premier advocates for civil rights in their communities, conducting voter mobilization and monitoring equal opportunity in the public and private sectors. The Legal Department of the NAACP is responsible for the organization’s civil rights legal advocacy and serves as its corporate counsel. The Legal Department’s work involves a number of practice areas, including: corporate governance, nonprofit organizations, voluntary associations, trusts and estates, real estate, contracts, criminal justice, economic justice, education, employment, housing, environmental justice, and voting.

Requirements

  • Ability to work full time for 37.5 hours per week from June 1, 2026 to August 7, 2026
  • Must have, at minimum, completed the first year of law school
  • Demonstrated commitment to the NAACP’s mission
  • Strong academic credentials

Responsibilities

  • Work on a variety of civil rights cases and internal matters under the supervision of the attorneys in the Legal Department.
  • Assist in the planning of the NAACP Legal Advocacy Institute, a continuing legal education seminar taking place during the NAACP National Convention in July 2026.
  • Assist with ongoing litigation
  • Develop legal education materials
  • Work under the supervision of attorneys to protect the NAACP brand.
