About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence. The primary purpose of the Plant Maintenance Section is to ensure the successful operation of the physical plant and facility infrastructure. This position supplements the departmental trades in their efforts to maintain the above facilities. This position occasionally assists in maintaining coverage for 2nd and 3rd shift operations. Also, this position sometimes independently supports shop procurement needs. On occasion, this position will assist with maintenance repairs and other types of work for other State agencies. ALL employees of Murdoch Center are designated as ESSENTIAL for adverse weather and emergency events.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma or a sufficient year-for-year combination of education and experience associated with a variety of mechanical or building trades or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F. Not required for this position

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in some areas of any of the following: electrical, plumbing and HVAC operations
  • Working knowledge of a wide range of tools and some types of electrical instruments
  • Valid driver's license
