About The Position

The Maintenance Planner at Berner Food & Beverage is responsible for ensuring that all maintenance work—whether performed by internal teams or external partners—is efficiently prioritized, planned, executed, and verified for quality. This role is pivotal in maximizing productivity across the maintenance organization, eliminating inefficiencies, optimizing the use of resources (including spare parts and necessary equipment), and serving as the primary point of contact for maintenance coordination and scheduling. The Maintenance Planner collaborates closely with all levels of management to align maintenance activities with Berner’s business priorities

Requirements

  • Two-year technical degree or higher required.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in maintenance supervision and/or maintenance planning.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Clear and effective communication with shop floor personnel, vendors, OEM suppliers, and management.
  • Ability to perform cost analysis and work within a structured budget.
  • Proficiency in writing detailed repair reports.
  • Capable of developing and delivering clear, concise presentations as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the work order backlog to develop execution schedules that minimize planned downtime.
  • Create daily and weekly maintenance activity schedules to ensure the timely completion of all maintenance tasks.
  • Responsible for generating purchase orders for necessary parts and production supplies, which includes negotiating prices and overseeing the purchasing process.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of maintenance department parts and supplies, along with managing the inventory control and coordination of maintenance purchasing approvals.
  • Develop and implement Preventive Maintenance and Predictive Maintenance tasks and plans, validating new plans in collaboration with maintenance technicians and maintenance department leaders.
  • Ensure that the library of machine manuals, prints, and schematics remains current, and will assist in the management of Berner’s Maintenance system, including the setup of entities, vendors, and equipment.
  • In collaboration with maintenance leadership, ensure maintenance financial, statistical, and technical reports, maintain equipment history, and provide updates on open orders.
  • Manage the parts room with the identification of equipment or machines in need of spare parts, and oversee the inventory of all parts room items
  • Assess maintenance issues with the maintenance leadership and technicians to determine necessary parts and inventory.
  • Collaborate with maintenance staff to ensure continuous improvement of maintenance programs, which may involve revising tasks and frequencies as approved by management.
  • Lead and manage the maintenance work planning and scheduling process, including full ownership of scheduling meetings.
  • Develop and maintain agendas and attendee lists for all maintenance planning and scheduling meetings.
  • Ensure the presence of all relevant maintenance personnel at scheduling meetings and that priorities are clearly addressed in the weekly maintenance schedule.
  • Assign and distribute work orders via the Maintenance PM System or printed copies, ensuring alignment with the weekly schedule.
  • Assist maintenance leadership in the estimation of maintenance work durations for backlog calculation and begin cost estimation for labor and parts.
  • Along with estimated required labor hours, total job duration, and necessary skillsets for each task within the maintenance department.
  • Collaborate with other Berner Departments to incorporate maintenance requirements into job plans.
  • Assist maintenance leadership in communicating with contractors regarding critical job steps and expectations.
  • Collaborate with procurement to maintain accurate and current Bills of Materials (BOMs) for all maintenance vendors.
  • Support Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives, especially those related to proactive maintenance and maintenance planning.
  • Compile and deliver reports from the maintenance work system regarding maintenance work execution management.
  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the maintenance system, ensuring accurate job plans, work instructions, and inventory data within the maintenance department.
