About The Position

Job Summary: Direct and coordinate outside contractors/consultant and internal University departments in the execution of capital improvement projects. Inspect, review and approve work of contractors and other University personnel along with project submittals, drawings and other related paperwork/correspondences. Essential Functions: 35% Coordinate with architects, engineers, construction managers, contractors, University departments and various governing agencies to manage the execution of capital improvement projects. 25% Direct contractors and construction/design professionals to achieve satisfactory performance. Inspect construction sites to confirm compliance with contract provisions. 20% Review construction documents to assure compliance with University standards and specific program of requirements and design intent. Examine drawings and evaluate specifications prepared by outside consultants to appropriately mange projects and minimize University exposure to extra charges. 10% Review and approve project submittals, including shop drawings, schedules, pay applications and other correspondence. 10% Perform various other assignments as required. Additional Position Information: Education: Requires a relevant Bachelor's Degree. Experience: Requires a minimum of 4 years experience in construction administration including architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical systems. Strong communication, organizational, and computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet, database and computer aided drafting software required. Prior work experience in the administration of Capital Improvements for universities or other State of Ohio institutions is preferred. Leadership: Direct supervision and evaluation of work as a first-line supervisor over non-exempt staff including hiring, terminating, disciplining; or functional guidance and/or project leadership over exempt staff engaged in activities of a recurring basis. Physical Requirements: Moderate physical effort required involving long periods of standing, walking on rough surfaces, bending and/or stooping; periodic lifting of moderately heavy items (over 25 lbs. -- 50 lbs.). Working Conditions: Standard working environment with possible minor inconveniences due to occasional noise, crowded working conditions and/or minor heating/cooling or ventilation problems. Near continuous use (>70% of the time) of a video display terminal. Compensation: Starting salary is $75,000; final compensation will be commensurate with experience.
