About The Position

The Manual Lathe Machinist is responsible for operating manual lathes to produce precision metal components according to engineering drawings and specifications. This role requires a strong understanding of machining processes, hand tools, and measuring instruments to ensure high-quality parts and efficient production.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
3+ years of experience operating manual lathes in a machine shop environment.
Proficient in reading blueprints and applying GD&T principles.
Skilled in using precision measuring tools.
Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

Experience with manual milling machines and other machine shop equipment.
Background in aerospace, automotive, or precision manufacturing.
Knowledge of safety and quality standards such as ISO 9001 / AS9100.

Responsibilities

Set up and operate manual lathes to produce parts according to specifications.
Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, and feeds for each job.
Perform threading, turning, facing, drilling, and boring operations as required
Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, etc.) to ensure adherence to tolerances.
Make necessary adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and quality standards.
Record inspection results and production data accurately.
Perform basic maintenance on lathes and related equipment, including cleaning and lubrication.
Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
Work closely with engineers, programmers, and other machinists to understand job requirements and improve processes.
Report any equipment malfunctions or safety issues to the supervisor.
