About The Position

The Master Scheduler is responsible for developing, maintaining, and executing the Master Production Schedule (MPS) to support customer demand, optimize manufacturing capacity, and ensure material availability. This role works cross-functionally with Sales, Production, Purchasing, Engineering, and Shipping/Receiving to coordinate schedules, manage backlog, and meet customer delivery commitments. The Master Scheduler utilizes the company’s ERP/MRP system and APS scheduling tools to plan production activities across all manufacturing departments while balancing capacity, material availability, and customer priorities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in production planning, scheduling, or supply chain coordination in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems for production planning; Syteline experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) tools.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel for production data analysis.
  • Ability to analyze production schedules, capacity plans, and inventory data.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret production schedules, shop orders, purchase orders, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate activities across multiple departments.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong time management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in metal fabrication, stamping, machining, or industrial manufacturing strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and manage the Master Production Schedule (MPS) to align production with customer demand and plant capacity.
  • Plan and schedule production requirements across all manufacturing departments including stamping, laser cutting, machining, welding, and finishing operations.
  • Utilize ERP/MRP and APS scheduling systems to generate and adjust production schedules based on order demand, material availability, and capacity constraints.
  • Release and manage shop orders, ensuring proper sequencing and prioritization to meet customer due dates.
  • Monitor production progress and adjust schedules as needed to address delays, material shortages, or capacity constraints.
  • Analyze workload requirements versus available capacity across departments to optimize equipment utilization and labor efficiency.
  • Review monthly production hours and forecasted sales demand to determine production requirements, staffing needs, and overtime planning.
  • Coordinate with operations leadership to balance production schedules and maintain efficient workflow.
  • Review material requirements and availability for scheduled production orders.
  • Identify and resolve raw material shortages by coordinating with purchasing and inventory teams.
  • Issue raw material allocations (including coil steel or other production materials) to shop orders as required.
  • Support inventory control initiatives including cycle counting, inventory accuracy improvements, and material tracking.
  • Monitor open customer orders, backlogs, and production schedules to ensure alignment with customer delivery commitments.
  • Work closely with Sales and Customer Service to respond to customer inquiries, expedite requests, and determine realistic promise dates.
  • Analyze order status and scheduling priorities to support achievement of monthly sales targets.
  • Prepare and present backlog and past-due reports during daily production meetings.
  • Track and report key production planning metrics including: On-time delivery performance Schedule adherence Backlog levels Capacity utilization
  • Analyze production and purchasing data to improve scheduling accuracy and operational performance.
  • Collaborate with production supervisors, engineering, purchasing, and shipping/receiving to resolve scheduling conflicts or delivery concerns.
  • Coordinate with New Product Development and Engineering teams regarding launch schedules and production readiness.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to production planning, inventory management, and scheduling processes.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, system updates, and reports related to production planning activities.
  • Participate in required production, planning, and operations meetings.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and housekeeping standards.
