About The Position

This requisition is for an Engineering Manager 2 in the Propulsion Reactor Engineering Planning Yard (PREPY). This manager will lead a group in providing engineering, logistical and vendor support for CVN 78 Class valves. The group provides engineering support for valve development, qualification, procurement and operation. Major functions include: •    Maintain several Navy and commercial valve drawings and their related technical manuals•    Develop and qualify new or modified valve designs or obsolete components•    Provide engineering analyses and design studies on a diverse range of problems•    Provide Fleet, New Construction, Shipyard and Navy Supply System support•    Support the commercial vendor base

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design
  • Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience
  • Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in project management to manage multiple projects simultaneously, including prioritizing, planning, scheduling, tracking and reviewing the work of engineers while maintaining quality, schedule and budget.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills to proactively and effectively communicate with team members, NAVSEA 08, NNS Waterfront Construction, Naval Shipyards, NAVSUP, Planning Yards and equipment manufacturers.
  • Strong written communication skills, with attention to detail, in order to consistently present high quality problem solutions as submittals to customers.
  • Ability to self-initiate assignments, able to lead teams as well as individuals, and demonstrate/teach/instruct engineering analyses with documented rigor.
  • Ability to develop engineering talent to have the skills necessary to resolve increasingly complex problems
  • Knowledge of the Naval Reactors program is desirable.
  • Knowledge of the CVN 78 Class propulsion plant valves and miscellaneous equipment design, qualification, and operation is preferred.
  • Past experience in implementing innovative technology to improve a design or process.
  • Ability to obtain RADCON qualifications and being able to physically access a wide variety of work sites including those aboard ships under various stages of overhaul or repair (involves tight, low or high spaces involving climbing ladders, kneeling, stooping, etc.) are preferred.
