About The Position

This position provides academic advisement and intake support to nursing students. MAJOR DUTIES Provides student advisement and support to nursing students. Distributes program application packages and counsels students on prerequisite course requirements as well as intake assessments Possess working ability to utilize the New Mexico Higher Education Department General Education Core Course Transfer Modules and the Transfer Evaluation System (TES). Evaluate unofficial student transcripts to assess what classes students may have to take to cover the individual program prerequisites. Monitors the academic progress of students; determines eligibility and satisfactory progress toward degree. Participates in the selection and admission of students; reviews applications and selects qualified students; develops and implements new selection processes as appropriate. Conducts acceptance procedures and communicates and indicates acceptance status to students. Maintains student database, collects program data, and prepares related reports deemed essential by Nursing Director. Directs students to appropriate financial aid departments for FAFSA completion, grant and scholarship opportunities, and academic support services. Maintains and updates nursing program information; revises website, catalog entries, brochures, forms, and handbooks. Collaborates in the development of nursing and pre-nursing programs of study. Work collaboratively with College and School personnel including Advising and Counseling to maintain and enhance general student satisfaction and service to ensure acceptable retention. Survey and submit graduation paperwork to registrar’s office following appropriate procedures. Coordinates new student orientation. Participates in college and departmental committees. Performs related duties.

  • Knowledge of nursing accreditation standards and criteria.
  • Knowledge of program policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of college policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Learning Management System Software to implement student data for acceptance and graduation
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs.
  • Skill in the provision of advisement and counseling to nursing program students.
  • Skill in decision making and problem solving.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
  • Skill in working effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field is required.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/ internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of New Mexico for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
