About The Position

Orientation Leaders (OLs) are energetic student leaders who help new first-year and transfer students feel confident, connected, and excited to begin their journey at UW-Parkside. OLs play a key role in creating a welcoming and engaging transition experience for approximately 500 first-year students, 300 transfer students, and 250 family members and guests each summer. As an Orientation Leader, you will develop leadership, communication, and public speaking skills while serving as a proud ambassador for UW-Parkside and building meaningful connections with fellow student leaders.

Requirements

  • Full-time, enrolled degree-seeking undergraduate through at least Fall 2026.
  • Minimum 2.25 cumulative GPA at the time of hiring and must maintain a 2.25 cumulative GPA throughout the term of employment. If you do not have a UW Parkside GPA, you may substitute your High School GPA if you are a first semester first year student or your GPA from a previous institution if you are a transfer student.
  • Be in good standing with the University and Dean of Students.
  • Available for all the required dates/times listed in section Orientation Leader Dates and Commitments
  • Have a deep love for UW Parkside and demonstrates school pride & spirit!

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a small group of 12–20 new students during New Student Orientation sessions through facilitated discussions, activities, and campus tours.
  • Assist with the successful execution of Orientation programs, including check-in, parking coordination, and session logistics.
  • Support students during summer transfer one-stop events.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable and approachable resource for students and families by providing accurate and appropriate information.
  • Complete a minimum of four summer office hours (May–August), engaging with students via live chat, phone calls, email communication, and Instagram Lives.
  • Participate in large-group presentations, including leading Parkside cheers and chants.
  • Assist with Ranger Welcome, including participation during the first two days and additional support as needed.
  • Support Orientation and campus engagement initiatives through social media outreach, including takeovers.
  • Assist with recruitment of the next Orientation Leader team by participating in fall recruitment events and providing candidate recommendations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the success of Orientation programs.
