About The Position

The Payroll and Benefits Specialist plays a critical role in supporting our employees by ensuring they are paid accurately, receive valuable benefits, and have guidance during life events that require leave. This position combines precision, compliance expertise, and compassionate employee support. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, approachable, and committed to delivering a high level of service while maintaining strict confidentiality and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in payroll and/or benefits administration
  • Working knowledge of payroll systems and HRIS platforms
  • Strong understanding of employment laws and regulatory compliance
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and professionalism
  • Excellent communication skills and a service-oriented mindset

Responsibilities

  • Process biweekly payroll accurately and on time
  • Maintain payroll records, including earnings, deductions, and tax withholdings
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws
  • Manage year-end payroll processes, including W-2 preparation and distribution
  • Partner with leadership to continuously improve payroll accuracy and efficiency
  • Administer employee benefits programs (health, dental, vision, life insurance, etc.)
  • Coordinate open enrollment processes, including clear and engaging employee communications
  • Maintain benefits records and process enrollments, changes, and terminations
  • Serve as a knowledgeable and supportive resource for employee benefit questions
  • Administer and manage leave programs, including FMLA and Paid Leave Oregon
  • Track leave balances and maintain thorough and accurate documentation
  • Communicate leave policies and procedures with clarity and empathy
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable leave laws and regulations
  • Partner with plant leadership to identify hiring needs and workforce gaps
  • Post job openings and manage applicant tracking
  • Screen candidates and coordinate interviews with hiring managers
  • Support onboarding processes including pre-employment documentation and new hire setup
  • Maintain recruitment records and ensure compliance with employment regulations
  • Assist with employee engagement activities
  • Other duties as assigned
