About The Position

The Material Handler is responsible for safely and efficiently moving, staging, and supplying materials used in the plastics production area of a reel manufacturing facility. This position spends approximately 75 percent of the time operating a forklift and 25 percent performing material-handling tasks on foot. The role supports daily production by ensuring machines have the correct raw materials, finished goods are transported properly, and inventory remains accurate and organized.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous material handling, warehouse, or manufacturing experience required; plastics or extrusion experience preferred.
  • Strong forklift experience; valid forklift certification or ability to become certified.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Comfortable working in varying temperatures and industrial environments.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a forklift for the majority of the shift to move raw materials, finished plastic components, and packaging supplies.
  • Supply Plastic production lines with necessary materials.
  • Load and unload materials using forklifts, pallet jacks, or other approved equipment.
  • Transfer finished plastic components (flanges, spacers, cores, etc.) to designated storage or staging areas.
  • Conduct floor-level material handling, inspections, labeling, and housekeeping tasks.
  • Maintain accurate counts while pulling, issuing, or returning materials to inventory.
  • Perform daily checks on material levels and notify leadership when stock is low.
  • Assist with cycle counts and inventory audits as required.
  • Ensure materials are properly labeled, stored, and handled according to safety and quality standards.
  • Remove scrap and waste materials from production lines and dispose of them in the appropriate containers.
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Follow all facility safety protocols, including PPE requirements, forklift safety, and lockout/tagout where applicable.
  • Communicate with supervisors, machine operators, and other departments to support production flow.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the plastics department and overall operations.
