About The Position

Thatcher Company is seeking a Purchasing Clerk I to join our Supply Chain team. This entry-level position provides clerical and administrative support to purchasing operations and helps ensure materials and supplies are ordered, tracked, and delivered efficiently. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working with data and vendors. This role works under close supervision while gaining experience in procurement and supply chain processes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 0–2 years of related experience preferred
  • Significant work experience may be considered in place of formal education
  • Basic understanding of purchasing or inventory processes
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy with data
  • Good communication and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
  • Ability to follow instructions and manage multiple tasks

Nice To Haves

  • No prior purchasing experience required — on-the-job training will be provided

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process purchase orders (POs) and requisitions as directed
  • Maintain purchasing files, vendor lists, and order tracking logs
  • Verify pricing, quantities, and product descriptions on purchase orders
  • Communicate with suppliers to confirm orders, delivery dates, and order status
  • Assist receiving and accounting teams with order discrepancies or invoice issues
  • Maintain accurate records in ERP or purchasing systems
  • Perform data entry and reporting related to procurement activities
  • Follow all company purchasing procedures and safety policies
