About The Position

The Re-Entry Advisor serves as a key advocate for former students seeking to resume their academic journey at National University. This role is responsible for cultivating meaningful, personalized relationships with returning students while partnering effectively with internal departments and external university teams. The advisor provides comprehensive guidance throughout the re-entry process, identifying potential obstacles, offering strategic solutions, and ensuring alignment with institutional policies to promote a seamless and successful return.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in enrollment, academic advising, or student support in a higher education setting is preferred.
  • Experience in customer service, decision-making, and working in a technology-driven environment is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with FERPA and other relevant regulatory standards preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the re-entry process for former students, including document management, faculty endorsements, Dean’s Exceptions, CAS Petitions, and financial clearance.
  • Evaluate students’ Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and Academic Standing.
  • Resolve prior balances, secure funding, and assess eligibility for scholarships and grants.
  • Coordinate orientation procedures and ensure a successful start to their initial course.
  • Serve as a liaison between returning students and university departments to facilitate a seamless Re-Entry experience.
  • Apply emotional intelligence and active listening to foster a supportive advising environment.
  • Use critical thinking to analyze student records from academic and financial perspectives in alignment with university policies (SAP, Balance, Maximum Time Frame, Dean’s Exceptions).
  • Advise students on support resources following a comprehensive needs assessment.
  • Develop clear, personalized re-entry plans for enrollment, scheduling, and academic success.
  • Communicate proactively with students throughout the re-enrollment process.
  • Apply advanced administrative knowledge to complete all documentation and compliance steps for enrollment.
  • Plan academic schedules that align with student goals and institutional guidelines.
  • Verify compliance requirements before financial review by the AFA Team.
  • Guide students in reviewing funding options and securing financial aid using comprehensive knowledge of aid processes.
  • Assist and resolve technical challenges related to enrollment or orientation.
