About The Position

This position will support Cruz-Martín lab members in the study of the developmental mechanisms underlying the wiring of prefrontal cortex networks (see Comer et al., 2020 Plos Biology and Johnson et al., 2022). In our lab, we utilize a variety of methods and approaches to analyze biological mechanisms. These include in vivo calcium and dendritic spine imaging using multiphoton microscopy, in vivo calcium imaging using 3D-printed miniature microscopes to record neural activity in freely moving rodents, spatial transcriptomics, generation of genetic mouse models, optogenetic interrogation of neural circuits, and the use of electrophysiological methods.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information
  • The ability to work with postdoc and PI within the research lab on assigned projects.
  • MATLAB, Python, and R software, equipment operation, or research technical skills

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, physics, computer science or neuroscience
  • Master’s degree in biomedical engineering, physics, computer science or neuroscience
  • Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab
  • Background in biophysics, computer science, neuroscience, or biomedical engineering.
  • Experience with neuroscience methods, and analyzing data sets.

Responsibilities

  • Support for the development of in vivo microscopy systems.
  • Set up lab equipment.
  • Perform behavioral measurements using 1P and 2P miniscopes.
  • Support for the development of analysis pipelines.
  • Perform lab maintenance tasks.
