About The Position

The Resident Association Coordinator assists in the coordination and the development of programs for the MDHA Resident Associations to provide accurate and timely communication between MDHA and all residents, to empower residents to work together for the best possible living environment, to ensure mutual understanding of residents’ responsibilities and rights, and to do related work as required.

Requirements

  • Interact professionally while maintaining effective working relationships with MDHA leadership, residents, vendors, community partners.

  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of group dynamics
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally, and written
  • Make sound judgments and exercise good decision-making.
  • Knowledge of HUD rules and regulations pertaining to Resident Associations.
  • Knowledge of Public Housing Programs and Multifamily Housing under the Project Based Rental Assistance (PBRA ) program.
  • Knowledge of resident rights and responsibilities under all HUD affordable housing programs, including multifamily housing with HUD insured mortgages.
  • Willingness, mental and physical ability to perform the duties involved in this classification.
  • The ability to perform work with or without accommodation requires the ability to sit, stand, and walk; dexterity of the hands; clarity of vision, speech, and hearing.
  • The power of observation, and other physical duties as required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in sociology, psychology, social work or a related field, OR five (5) years of experience working with low to moderate income populations in community organizing and planning.

  • Prior work with affordable housing residents is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit and develop residents to take leadership positions within the Resident Association
  • Train officers on proper protocol for conducting meetings
  • Develop and facilitate education workshops and seminars for residents.
  • Attend workshops, seminars, conferences etc.
  • Recruit residents for focus groups, forums, workshops and seminars.
  • Prepare RA presidents to present at Board meetings and coordinate with Managers to insure their attendance.
  • Attend regularly scheduled Resident Association meetings.
  • Keep records of meetings.
  • Facilitate and monitor individual Resident Association elections.
  • Develop a list of resources for the associations.
  • Assist residents with developing annual budget
  • Submit annual RA budget, monitor all RA , and budget variances.
  • Coordinate transportation for Resident Association activities.
  • Research and implement best practices for working with and developing Resident Associations.
  • Coordinate Community Partner Meetings for both Resident Associations and other MDHA Community Base Programs
  • Work with Resident Associations to develop youth initiatives
  • Attend and offer support for Resident Association sponsored events
  • Assist Resident Association leaders with the execution of community-wide events
  • Collaborate with local Universities in the supervision and recruitment of interns
  • Provides general customer service to all MDHA Resident Services' clients, including but not limited to providing information and referral, enrollment information and emergency referral response. Must maintain some knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
