About The Position

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in life insurance underwriting, including term and permanent products.
  • Demonstrated expertise in medical, non-medical, and financial risk assessment.
  • In-progress or completed industry designations (e.g., LOMA, ALMI, FMLI, ALU, FALU).
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Positive, inclusive, and collaborative mindset with agility in fast-paced environments.
  • Comfort working independently and managing multiple underwriting requests simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Review and evaluate individual risks, including medical history, occupational factors, and financial background, to determine policy acceptance, modification, or declination.
  • Apply underwriting policies, guidelines, and best practices to ensure accurate and consistent risk selection.
  • Communicate underwriting decisions clearly and effectively to internal stakeholders and partners.
  • Independently manage assigned underwriting requests with minimal supervision.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce friction, and maintain mortality expectations.
  • Gather and analyze relevant information efficiently to support timely decision-making.
  • Adapt to ambiguity while maintaining high-quality underwriting standards.
