The Technological Interventions for Ecological Systems (TIES) Lab at the University of Texas at Austin is seeking an in-person, full-time Social Science/Humanities Research Associate I in the Department of Psychology. The research focuses on big data analytics and pervasive computing methods to develop adaptive and responsive mental health interventions, with the goal of increasing the reach and impact of mental health care. A special focus includes collecting data on couples and families from historically under-resourced and underserved backgrounds and investigating the impact of stress and adversity on family processes and child development, as well as addressing health disparities, particularly issues related to AI ethics and bias in artificial intelligence models. The position will also help develop and implement study protocols; recruit, interview, and train research assistants; support participant recruitment and engagement; conduct study sessions; monitor participant adherence; assist with IRB submissions and will have opportunities to conduct independent research, present findings at conferences, and contribute to scientific publications as an author. This is a fixed-term 1-year position The interdisciplinary TIES lab team, consisting of clinical psychologists, data scientists, software developers, and engineers at UT Austin and other universities across the county, is currently building a comprehensive web app and mobile app data collection tool, developing machine learning algorithms to sense psychological states in daily life, and sending iterative micro-experimental mental health interventions via smartphones and wearable devices.
