Software Engineering Intern - R&D - Portland, OR (100% on-site) At Panasonic Avionics Corporation, interns play a meaningful role in driving innovation and shaping the future of inflight entertainment. Our paid internships run 100% on-site from May/June through August/September, and all candidates must be actively enrolled students during the program. To learn more about internship program visit: https://www.panasonic.aero/internships The R&D Software Engineering Intern will join our research and development team to contribute to cutting-edge Android-based in-flight entertainment (IFE) solutions. This internship will offer hands-on experience in developing next-generation passenger entertainment systems, optimizing Android frameworks for aviation environments, and exploring emerging technologies in connected aircraft ecosystems. What you will get from this experience: Gained practical experience in Android development for specialized embedded systems. Understood the unique challenges of aviation software development including safety, certification, and reliability requirements. Developed skills in optimizing performance for resource-constrained environments. Learned about the end-to-end product development lifecycle in R&D. Built knowledge of in-flight entertainment system architecture and passenger experience design. Enhanced coding practices and software engineering fundamentals.

Requirements

  • Bachelors in Computer Science.
  • Colleges in the PNW (Oregon, Washington) are preferred. Students graduating from Portland High schools are also preferred.
  • Must be able to commute and work on-site 5 days a week.
  • Must be currently enrolled as a fulltime student at an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work on a full-time basis for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of any type of employment-based visa at this time.

Responsibilities

  • Research emerging Android technologies and assess their applicability to IFE systems.
  • Investigate user experience improvements for touchscreen interfaces in cabin environments.
  • Explore connectivity solutions for streaming and content synchronization.
  • Contribute to proof-of-concept development for new features and capabilities.
  • Document code, testing procedures, and research findings.
  • Participate in agile development processes including stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware engineers, UX designers, and aviation certification. specialists.
  • Present findings and progress updates to the R&D team.
