About the Role: As an Tutor at Tutor Me Education, you’ll provide personalized, one-on-one tutoring to students with special needs in their homes. You will be responsible for helping students with daily activities, offering moral support, and delivering tailored instruction based on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP). We are currently hiring for multiple positions across all cities in Lawndale, CA Details: In-Person Tutoring in Lawndale, CA Schedule: 10 hours a month, 1 session a week to start Pay range is between $25 and $35 Ideal Candidate: Experience working with students with autism and significant learning needs Background supporting foundational literacy skills, including phonemic awareness, phonics, and sight word development Understanding of early reading instruction, including blending sounds and building reading fluency Experience teaching foundational math concepts, including number recognition, counting, and number sense Skilled in using multisensory, hands-on, and structured teaching strategies Experience implementing behavior intervention strategies; RBT certification or similar experience strongly preferred Familiarity with IEP-based instruction and working alongside speech and occupational therapy supports Patient, consistent, and confident managing challenging behaviors in a calm and professional manner Ability to create structured, predictable routines with frequent reinforcement Comfortable conducting an academic assessment to guide instruction

Nice To Haves

  • Experience implementing behavior intervention strategies; RBT certification or similar experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct an initial tutor assessment to determine current literacy and math skill levels
  • Provide explicit, structured instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, and letter-sound correspondence
  • Support development of blending skills to form simple words (e.g., CVC words) and build early reading fluency
  • Reinforce sight word recognition through repetition and multisensory strategies
  • Use short, engaging reading activities with frequent positive reinforcement
  • Develop foundational math skills through hands-on instruction, including number identification, counting, and one-to-one correspondence
  • Introduce early math concepts using manipulatives, number lines, and visual supports
  • Maintain structured sessions with consistent routines and clear expectations
  • Implement behavior support strategies to manage frustration and challenging behaviors appropriately
  • Incorporate student interests (e.g., iPad, YouTube) as motivational tools and reinforcement
  • Provide a supportive, patient learning environment that promotes engagement and gradual skill development
  • Share progress updates with caregivers and adjust instruction as needed
