At Tutor Me Education, we are revolutionizing the way students learn, and we're seeking passionate teachers and tutors with special education experience to provide 1:1 in-home tutoring in Long Beach, CA ! About the Role: As an Tutor at Tutor Me Education, you’ll provide personalized, one-on-one tutoring to students with special needs in their homes. You will be responsible for helping students with daily activities, offering moral support, and delivering tailored instruction based on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP). We are currently hiring for multiple positions across all cities in Long Beach, CA Details: In-Person Tutoring in Long Beach, CA Schedule: 6 hours a month, 1x a week at 1hr 30mins Pay range is between $25 and $35

Requirements

  • Valid teaching credential required (Special Education or Multiple Subject preferred)
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (required)
  • Experience working with students with autism and IEPs in a middle school setting
  • Strong background in foundational math skills and concepts, including division and two-digit multiplication
  • Ability to provide supplemental support in foundational literacy/ELA as needed
  • Experience implementing structured, behavior-supported instruction (ABA-informed strategies preferred)
  • Skilled in breaking down tasks into small, manageable steps
  • Patient, calm, and consistent in managing moderate behaviors and task avoidance
  • Ability to create structured, engaging sessions with clear expectations and routines
  • Comfortable conducting an academic assessment to guide instruction

Responsibilities

  • Conduct an initial assessment to determine current academic levels and inform instruction
  • Provide targeted math instruction focused on foundational skills, including division and two-digit multiplication
  • Reinforce math concepts through structured, step-by-step instruction and guided practice
  • Provide supplemental literacy/ELA support as needed
  • Implement highly structured sessions with clear routines, expectations, and transitions
  • Break tasks into short, manageable segments to support engagement and reduce overwhelm
  • Utilize proactive behavior strategies, including positive reinforcement and scheduled breaks
  • Respond appropriately to task avoidance behaviors (e.g., refusal, ripping materials, throwing objects, elopement attempts) in a calm and consistent manner
  • Incorporate student interests (e.g., Roblox, Minecraft, soccer, tic-tac-toe, fidget tools, favorite athletes) to increase motivation and participation
  • Maintain a supportive and encouraging learning environment that promotes confidence and progress
  • Provide progress updates to caregivers and adjust instruction as needed
