The ESSENTIALS FOR SUCCESS: The Senior Director, International Marketing is a strategic leader responsible for effectively extending and stewarding the Ulta Beauty brand across international markets. This role ensures that U.S. developed marketing strategies, campaigns, assets, and processes are communicated and translated in a way that is locally relevant for global partners while maintaining brand integrity, operational rigor, and commercial impact. This role reports directly to our Chief Marketing Officer and works in a matrixed organization with a dotted line to the VP, Head of International. This Senior Director also serves as the primary marketing point of contact and approver for international partner activities, providing visibility to and seeking guidance from the Chief Marketing Officer and International Lead as appropriate. Furthermore, this leader also works cross-functionally to support international marketing activities (both Ulta Beauty and co-branded) and build enduring international capabilities. This leader plays a critical role in enabling global growth by adapting U.S. marketing capabilities for international application, establishing governance, and ensuring the strength of the Ulta Beauty brand across partner markets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or related field required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 12+ years of progressive marketing leadership experience. Retail, beauty, or consumer brand experience preferred, with demonstrated leadership of international marketing strategy, brand stewardship, and multi-market execution required.
  • Proven experience adapting global campaigns across markets while maintaining brand integrity.
  • Strong partnership capability across functions and potential partners; ability to influence outcomes without direct authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead in matrixed, cross-functional organizations.
  • Experience partnering with international distributors, franchise partners, or joint ventures preferred.
  • Strong strategic thinking, operational rigor, and change management capability
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with agility, manage competing priorities, and lead through ambiguity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong executive presence.
  • Travel required, including international.

Responsibilities

  • Being a steward of Ulta Beauty’s brand integrity across international markets by ensuring U.S. marketing materials are appropriately leveraged, adapted, and deployed. Maintain consistency in messaging, creative expression, and brand positioning across all international partner activations, while balancing local relevance.
  • Oversee the adaptation and extension of U.S. campaign assets into partner regions, ensuring alignment with local market dynamics and execution plans while preserving brand standards.
  • Provide U.S. strategy frameworks, integrated marketing calendars, and planning deliverables as guidance for partners. Translate U.S. based capabilities, processes, and best practices into scalable models suitable for international markets.
  • Serve as the primary marketing approver for international partner marketing plans, campaigns, and activations. Establish and enforce governance frameworks that balance brand protection with local flexibility.
  • Provide ongoing visibility into international marketing initiatives to the CMO and International Lead, seeking guidance and alignment on key brand, reputational, and strategic decisions.
  • Establish KPIs and performance measurement frameworks to assess international marketing effectiveness. Identify opportunities to optimize processes, enhance collaboration, and improve speed-to-market.
  • Provide guidance on co-branded (Ulta Beauty + third-party) marketing materials to ensure alignment with brand standards and relevance for international markets.
  • Develop clear briefing, approval, and execution workflows to support international marketing consistency and scalability.
  • Act as a global brand ambassador, balancing enterprise strategy with cultural nuance and local market realities.
  • Demonstrate strong executive presence, influence senior stakeholders, and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence across international partnerships.
