Job Description The Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN) is made up of every undergraduate student at the University of Nevada. ASUN provides a means for students to voice concerns and address issues at the university, local, state, national, and international levels.

Requirements

  • Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno
  • Maintain a 2.00 GPA and be enrolled in at least 7 undergraduate credits
  • Perform all duties and instructions outlined by the ASUN Governing Documents
  • Uphold the Nevada Student Code of Conduct
  • Meet all deadlines set forth
  • Attend all required meetings and training
  • Work scheduled hours
  • Properly complete and submit HR paperwork on time
  • Assist in the promotion of the mission of ASUN and Nevada
  • Behave in a manner that is ethical, maintaining a high level of integrity
  • Other duties as called upon by my position
  • I understand if I do not adhere to the items outlined in this agreement or what is stated in the ASUN Governing Documents, my position may be subject to disciplinary action by the ASUN Judicial Council and/or the University of Nevada.

Nice To Haves

  • Motivation to further the goals and initiatives of ASUN: Conducting student outreach to understand non-partisan legislative priorities of the student body Connecting with state, local, and federal policymakers to brainstorm policy solutions to student issues Actively tracking bill draft requests for 84th Nevada State Legislature aligned with student interests Serving as a robust advocate within the Nevada System of Higher Education Furthering on-campus voter education and registration Sponsoring opportunities for political engagement on a nonpartisan basis
  • Strong writing and policy analysis skills
  • Ability to cultivate relationships with students, student clubs and organizations, and policymakers
  • Ability to work effectively and respectfully with politically, ideologically, and culturally diverse people and communities
  • Excellent organization and project management skills in a team-based environment with multiple projects
  • Budgeting experience
  • Proficient at leading a cohesive team
  • Access to consistent and reliable transportation to Carson City during the week throughout the 83rd Nevada State Legislative Session

Responsibilities

  • The Director shall provide non-partisan advice to the President, and frame recommendations for the President to advance student interests.
  • The Director shall coordinate with the Director of Governmental Relations for the University of Nevada.
  • The Director may delegate any of the Director’s functions to any other officer, employee, or organizational unit of the Department. All other officers shall be appointed by the Director.
  • The Director must attend all Committee on Democratic Civic Engagement meetings or must designate the Assistant Director to attend in their absence.
  • The Director shall present a new appointment to the Senate within the following two weeks of said committee or Senate meeting if an executive appointment is reported unfavorably by the Senate Committee on Oversight or if an appointee is not passed by the Senate, or if the Director is unable to find a qualified candidate within those two weeks, the Director must present to the Committee on Oversight and explain the circumstances.
  • The Director shall act as President if, because of death, resignation, removal from office, inability, or failure to qualify, there is no President, Vice President, Speaker of the Senate, Director of Clubs and Organizations, Director of Programming, Attorney General, or Director of Public and Campus Relations to act as President.
  • To have a report read or spoken into the record at minimum every other Senate meeting.
