About The Position

As the Triage Medical Assistant you become the advocate between the provider and the patient. This position gives our patients guidance, direction, assistance and coordination of nursing care driven by our providers

Requirements

  • Must be a Medical Assistant who has a caring personality and a positive attitude.
  • Have the ability to remain calm under pressure and exhibit sound nursing judgment; excellent time management skills, problem solving abilities, and good communication skills.
  • Having good pharmacology knowledge is definitely a plus as well as having Good computer skills, being detail oriented and self- motivate; being able to Multi-task is a must as well as working in a busy environment.
  • Have appropriate education for a Medical Assistant

Responsibilities

  • Assure positive communications physicians, patients/families, staff and outside facilities.
  • Communicate clearly with patients relaying information from providers and other sources.
  • Assess the patient’s needs and relays to the provider any concerns.
  • Work independently utilizing critical nursing skills; which includes, Management of and Prioritizing severity of Triage tasks and incoming calls including critical care such as: Chest pains, Shortness of breath, abdominal pain, allergic reactions, etc.
  • Responds to emergent health conditions for patients in office and at Diagnostics
  • Reporting, ordering and scheduling of diagnostic tests, Referrals to other Offices and other miscellaneous items
  • Referrals to Home Health, Hospice, and Nursing Home placements and the coordination of care with outside facilities and our in house CCM group.
  • Refilling and monitoring the use of medications and pain management, implementing the Chronic Opioid use and Protocol and the calculations of the MEDD.
  • Communicates with patients regarding prescription need, clarification and collaborating to be sure patients have correct understanding of use and refill protocol
  • IV therapy if certified (can be certified here if willing)
  • Case Management of the following protocols and implementing the action plan and prescribing of medications; UTI’s, Strep, Vaginal Candidiasis, COPD, CHF, Asthma, and Coumadin, chronic opioids and pain management.
  • Supporting floor staff when needed (blood draws, catheters, injections) ordering of STAT tests, ETC
  • Assisting with completion of paperwork such as FMLA, FAMLI, LOA, DME, Oxygen cert, ETC
  • Any other items providers feel they need help with or find need immediate attention.
