About The Position

The summer intern will support our DOE-NE–relevant effort to develop and evaluate corrosion-resistant molten-salt barrier coatings for nuclear applications. Their primary work will focus on microstructural and chemical characterization of PVD and cold/plasma-sprayed coating systems after exposure to molten chloride and fluoride salts at operating temperatures. Depending on facility availability, they may also help assess irradiation effects on selected coating designs using ion irradiation to understand how radiationinduced microstructural changes influence corrosion performance. This work will involve advanced characterization tools including FIB sample preparation and SEM/TEM analysis.
