About The Position

We have an exciting opportunity for a Water Design Engineer to join our Water Group. This role is ideal for an early-career engineer ready to take on greater design responsibility while receiving mentorship from senior engineers. You will contribute to projects involving water supply, pumping, treatment, storage, and distribution, and you will have the opportunity to interface directly with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary project teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required.
  • 2+ years of experience in water, municipal, or infrastructure engineering.
  • Working knowledge of engineering design principles, plan preparation, and water infrastructure systems.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills, with the ability to work independently under general supervision.
  • Ability to travel locally throughout Chicagoland and Southeastern Wisconsin.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using engineering and design software (Civil 3D/Revit, ArcGIS, Blue Beam or other PDF editors ) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior engineers with the evaluation, study, and design of water supply, pumping, treatment, and storage facilities.
  • Perform field investigations, documenting findings and integrating them into engineering designs and reports.
  • Prepare technical memoranda, engineering reports, planning studies , and design calculations.
  • Develop detailed design documents, including plans, specifications, and cost estimates for water treatment and storage systems.
  • Prepare project scopes, schedules, technical specifications, and contract documents for bidding and construction.
  • Use standard QA/QC protocols in accordance with firm practices and project requirements.
  • Communicate regularly with clients and internal project teams regarding project status, design decisions, and technical recommendations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including Survey, CADD, Structural, Electrical, and Administrative groups to develop complete bid packages and reports.
  • Attend client meetings, including occasional evening Board or Council meetings, to present project updates or support senior staff.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment and may provide mentorship to less experienced engineers.
  • Continue professional growth through active participation in water-focused or municipal engineering organizations.
  • Begin to initiate client relationships and participate in proposal development as applicable to your assigned projects.
