About The Position

The Zoning Technician provided technical support to the Planning Department for both the Planning and Building Division Assigns addressing for all unincorporated Weld County parcel, checks setbacks/offsets for buildings as well as conduct property research for all permit types. Receptionist duties including frequent interruptions, multiple phone calls and personal customer inquiries for building and planning divisions. Performs a variety of complex duties requiring extensive use of independent judgment and knowledge of technical terms and applications thereof. Is an active team member for the department, establishing and maintaining a high degree of cooperation with coworkers; offering assistance to coworkers when a need is perceived; waiting on customers when the technician's are occupied and performing duties assigned independently.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 3 years Office Work
  • Must have the ability to read legal descriptions and zoning / road maps
  • Candidate must pass criminal background check prior to employment start date.
  • DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Upon Hire Required
  • Candidate must pass criminal background check prior to employment start date.
  • Pre-employment substance screening is required for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 2 years experience in a Building / Planning job
  • Experience with Accela permits system
  • Experience in any government related job

Responsibilities

  • Answers phones; provides vacation and/or sick coverage for front staff as well as lunch cover-age.
  • Checks and finalizes building permits information for processing ensuring accuracy and com-pleteness of file.
  • Maintenance of records including filing, searching files and retrieving information for files; maintains records according to established methods and procedures; complies and tabulates data as required
  • Assists public and other employees with addressing questions and assigns new addresses.
  • Keeps informed of new codes and ordinances; answers inquires form the public regarding building permit and building inspection processing.
  • Assists office personnel as required; assists in the training of new staff members; and reviews own work to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Property research on building permits for zoning
  • Ability to read legal descriptions along with the ability to read zoning, road and flood hazard maps.
  • Conducts basic land and title research to determine property ownership and/or compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Reviews all building, electrical and mobile home permits for compliance with zoning, addressing, subdivision and storm water regulations, including setbacks, floodplain, lot size and legal lot issues.
  • Refers problem permits to supervisor for assistance.
  • Includes appropriate personnel in decision making when necessary.
  • Follow policies and procedures of the Weld County Code of Conduct and adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines and appropriate release of information outlined in both.
  • Ability to work with and communicate with office personnel is a professional manner.
