About The Position

This position will serve a dual role both as Health Care Technician II and a Staff Interpreter. This position will be assigned as a 1:1 staff to a non-English speaking patient for his/her entire shift. This position will process related documentation of the 1:1 assignment and will be consistent with Nursing Services requirements. The position will perform all HCT II duties as required with the patient as well as interpret for the patient in all service areas. This position may be required to translate written information for the patient. When the position is not needed to serve as an interpreting HCT II, he/she will be assigned to routine HCT II duties in a designated PCU.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development diploma and one year of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • As required, listing as a Nurse Aide I by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation.
  • As applicable, listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
  • As applicable, North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.

Nice To Haves

  • The ability to interpret/translate all verbal and written communication in a patient’s preferred language.
  • Ability to assess patient’s communication skill level and exercise good judgement in interpretation/translation rendered.
  • Basic knowledge to appropriately interpret medical, psychiatric, and basic legal terminology.
