About The Position

Riggs Washington DC sits on the iconic downtown corner of Penn Quarter’s 9th and F Street in a historic building once home to Riggs National Bank. Each of the Hotel’s 181 guest rooms offers a playful nod to the building’s legacy. Riggs is home to the all-occasion European brasserie-inspired restaurant Café Riggs, as well as Silver Lyan – a subterranean bar from the internationally acclaimed Ryan Chetiyawardana, also known as Mr Lyan. The Lead Host is the first and last point of contact for guests dining at [Restaurant Name], ensuring a seamless and exceptional guest experience across breakfast, lunch, and dinner service. As the face of the restaurant, the Lead Host sets the tone for a warm, professional, and welcoming environment while managing reservations, seating, and guest inquiries with precision. They are also responsible for mentoring the host team, maintaining smooth front-of-house operations, and collaborating with other departments to enhance the guest journey.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and welcome guests warmly, ensuring a positive first impression.
  • Manage reservations and walk-ins efficiently to maximize table turns while accommodating guest preferences.
  • Address guest inquiries, special requests, and concerns professionally and proactively.
  • Train, mentor, and guide the host team to uphold service standards and maintain consistency.
  • Lead pre-shift briefings to communicate reservation trends, VIP guests, and other key updates.
  • Oversee seating assignments and flow of service to ensure balanced and efficient table management.
  • Update and maintain the reservation system, including guest notes, preferences, and feedback.
  • Collaborate with servers, managers, and the culinary team to ensure smooth operations.
  • Create and manage the host schedule to meet operational needs across all meal periods.
  • Assist with compiling daily reports, tracking guest feedback, and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Conduct inventory and ordering of host-related supplies.
  • Own menu printing Paper Inventory
  • Act as a liaison between the restaurant, hotel front desk, and other departments for cross-functional guest service.
  • Ensure smooth transitions between meal periods, preparing the dining room for each service.
