The Mastercard Intern Program is a comprehensive program where students will gain hands on real work-life skills while having fun and contributing to a global company. As an intern, you will be challenged with completing projects that will enhance your skills as well as contribute to the department’s goals and objectives. Legal Co-Op Role: Mastercard’s law department offers an engaging and paid legal co-op experience that provides one talented law student from an accredited law school an opportunity to gain exceptional experience and build relationships and exposure across a variety of practice areas. The selected candidate will work under the supervision of attorneys in Mastercard’s law department and will benefit from training and feedback on substantive assignments, mentoring and professional development. The selected law student will gain an understanding of in-house legal roles, the payments and technology industries and Mastercard’s product and engineering businesses. Typical assignments may include identifying and analyzing key legal, regulatory and commercial risks related to Mastercard’s products and services, researching legal issues, collaborating with subject matter experts, drafting contracts, review and preparation of product sales materials, among other matters as needed.

Requirements

  • Inquisitive, with a positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Strong legal research, writing and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal, team and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment
  • Have completed your first year of law school and in good academic standing
  • You must be enrolled in good standing at an ABA accredited law school and be authorized to work in the United States

Responsibilities

  • Identifying and analyzing key legal, regulatory and commercial risks related to Mastercard’s products and services
  • Researching legal issues
  • Collaborating with subject matter experts
  • Drafting contracts
  • Review and preparation of product sales materials
