Location: Anacortes, WA, Onsite Schedule: Full Time / Days Salary Range: $38.55 – $56.23 per hour The Staff Accountant II is a subject matter expert in the Finance Department and may be assigned to perform a broad range of tasks to include maintaining and controlling the General Ledger accounts and business transactions of the organization, updating and maintaining the Cost Accounting System, completing cash reconciliation or fixed assets, applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) that includes analytical work and thorough review of financial records. This position may also be assigned to serve as the primary back up to the Payroll Coordinator to support the completion of a bi-weekly payroll.

Requirements

  • A minimum of five (5) of previous accounting experience is required, with previous experience in a healthcare related facility or public entity strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload in order to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Be able to demonstrate attention to details and good-record-keeping
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, especially Excel).
  • Hands-on detail-oriented tasks.
  • Team player and can collaborate with other teams in the organization.
  • High level of interpersonal skills with demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy
  • Demonstrate a proficient level of professional skill and/or knowledge in accounting and keep current with developments and trends.
  • Knowledge and ability to use applicable information technology and systems to meet work needs.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to clearly communicate issues to all levels of management.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Controller with the day to day, monthly and year-end operations of the Accounting/ Finance Department including reporting and budget review and analysis.
  • Updates and maintains the Cost Accounting system as needed and provides reports to management as requested.
  • Reviews source documents, such as vouchers, invoices, and miscellaneous cash receipts for completeness, accuracy and compliance with policies.
  • Performs general accounts analysis and reconciliations, including bank statements, accruals and prepaid expenses.
  • Prepares the monthly budget to actual variance reports for departments.
  • Compiles and prepares business and tax returns.
  • Assists the Controller and Finance Team with daily, monthly, and year-end operations of the Finance Department as needed or assigned.
  • Supports other Finance related functions as necessary to ensure efficient department operations.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of all sensitive pay records and finance related information.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact positively with Administration, Directors, Managers, Supervisors, peers, coworkers, subordinates, patients and visitors.
  • Provides backup for and works with the Payroll Coordinator to support the completion of bi-weekly payroll including review of employee timecards for accuracy and compliance with established policy, procedures and collective bargaining agreement guidelines.
  • Prepares balancing report for biweekly payroll.
  • Processes, calculates, and posts a variety of payroll actions including wage garnishments, payroll liability claims, and overtime reports.
  • Performs additional responsibilities to ensure accurate check and balances of bi-weekly payroll processing.
